Inside the hair follicle, there is a pilosebaceous unit, which consists of the sebaceous gland and the hair follicle. This pilosebaceous unit is androgen sensitive. When this unit encounters hormonal imbalance, certain medical conditions persist such as acne, seborrhea, hirsutism and androgenetic alopecia. In these cases, there is increased sensitivity or higher plasma levels of androgen. |
